Mr. Mangelsdorf's practice areas include civil litigation and trial work. He has tried numerous jury and bench trials and advocated for clients in mediation. Mr. Mangelsdorf focuses his practice on the defense of negligence, product liability, premises liability and commerical vehicle accident litigation. He also practices in the area of workers' compensation law, concentrating on the defense of employers and insurance carriers.

Richard C. Mangelsdorf has experience in a wide variety of civil litigation, including the defense of commercial fire losses, defamation, construction litigation, product failures, security/criminal acts, commerical vehicle highway accidents, sporting accidents, professional negligence and drowning accidents. He has significant experience in all aspects of negligence and tort law.

Mr Mangelsdorf has defended numerous tractor-trailer accident lawsuits over the past 22 years, including the case of Todd M. Larkins, deceased vs. Mitchell Bowers and Eby Brown Co., a fatal accident involving the death of Tennessee Hwy. Patrol Trooper Todd Larkins who was killed in the line of duty on Interstate 40 in Dickson County, Tennessee, in July of 2005. This accident resulted in a statewide effort to publicize and enhance the punishment for Tennessee's "move over law" concerning stopped emergency vehicles using the emergency lane.

Mr. Mangelsdorf has lectured to claims professionals and risk managers in several states on the subjects of Tennessee tort law, transportation law issues and Tennessee workers' compensation. He has appeared twice as a panelist on News Channel 5 Plus to discuss current Tennessee workers' compensation law topics.

In The News

Mr. Mangelsdorf was the lead counsel for the petitioners in the case of Tennessee Environmental Council, Nashville Grotto of NSS, Tennessee Scenic Rivers' Association vs. State of Tennessee Department of Enviroment and Conservation and City of Spencer, an eight year environmental lawsuit and court supervised settlement which set precedence on the manner in which state agencies issue permits for the degradation of Tier II (high quality) streams in Tennessee. This case was concluded in late 2008.
