Mr. Dement became associated with the firm in 1997 and was made a Partner in 2003.

Born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, he earned Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees from Middle Tennessee State University before obtaining his J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law of Samford University (1996). While at Cumberland, Mr. Dement was Senior Editor of the American Journal of Trial Advocacy, a member of Phi Delta Phi and of the Cumberland Trial Advocacy Board. He also served as a Cordell Hull Teaching Assistant at the law school. After graduating he was Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable J.S. "Steve" Daniel, Presiding Circuit Court Judge for the 16th Judicial District of Tennessee (1996-97).

After law school, Mr. Dement served for one year as judicial law clerk to the Honorable J.S. Daniel, then presiding Judge of the 16th Judicial District of Tennessee. 

Representative Client Work

Tom’s practice involves representing clients in court at both trial and appellate levels as well as in mediations and arbitrations. Tom has handled multiple jury and bench trials in both state and Federal court. He also represents a number of clients in a transactional capacity, having helped form many corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships, and continues to advise clients on business practices such as employment discrimination, intellectual property matters, and non-competition agreements.

Tom has also represented clients in a variety of other matters such as shareholder disputes, wrongful discharge actions, corporate dissolution, consumer protection claims, product liability actions, insurance coverage disputes, workers’ compensation, tort liability, director’s and officer’s liability, errors and omissions coverage, dram shop and liquor liability, breach of contract actions, Uniform Commercial Code litigation, real estate litigation, class action defense, and trademark disputes..
